7-Day Tanzania Safari

Your guide collects you from your Arusha hotel or Kilimanjaro Airport by 07:30. The drive to Tarangire takes you through the Masai Steppe — a landscape that feels genuinely wild before you even reach a park. Tarangire is one of Tanzania's most distinctive parks: ancient baobab trees dot the landscape like enormous sculptures, and in the dry season the Tarangire River draws enormous elephant families to its banks. You arrive in time for lunch at camp, then head out for an afternoon game drive from 15:00 to 18:00. Lions are common, leopards occasionally spotted in the riverine woodland, and the birdlife along the river is exceptional. Dinner at camp.

An early morning game drive in Tarangire from 06:00 to 09:00 catches the wildlife at its most active before the heat of the day. After breakfast, you depart for the Serengeti — either by road through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (6 hours with a packed lunch, stopping at a viewpoint over the Great Rift Valley) or by light aircraft (45 minutes, spectacular aerial views of the Ngorongoro Highlands and the endless green Serengeti plains below). You arrive at your Serengeti camp by mid-afternoon, settle in, then head out for an evening game drive from 16:00 to 19:00 in the central Serengeti. Dinner and night in camp.

Your first full day in the Serengeti. Morning game drive from 06:00 to 12:00 — the wildlife is most active in the cooler morning hours and your guide will follow the action wherever it leads. Predators are easier to find in the morning, as are the large herds of wildebeest and zebra that define the Serengeti ecosystem. Lunch back at camp. Afternoon game drive from 15:30 to 19:00, returning after sunset with a cooler box of cold drinks and stories from the day.

Today you explore a different part of the Serengeti — moving toward the northern corridor where the Great Migration arrives from July to November. Even outside those months, the northern Serengeti is one of the most exclusive wildlife areas in Tanzania, with far fewer vehicles than the central areas. Your guide will choose the best route based on current wildlife distribution. Morning game drive to midday, lunch at a scenic spot in the park, then afternoon game drive. If you are visiting between July and November, today is when you aim for the Mara River crossing area.

A final morning game drive in the Serengeti from 06:00 to 10:00 — the last chance to enjoy the world's most famous wildlife park before you leave it. After breakfast, you begin the drive north and then west to Ngorongoro. Depending on the season, you may route through the southern Serengeti or Ndutu area — the calving grounds from January to March and a spectacular wildlife area at any time of year. Picnic lunch en route. Arrival at Ngorongoro rim in the mid-afternoon. Rest at your lodge before dinner — altitude sleep is different, but the cool air and extraordinary crater views are worth it.

Ngorongoro Crater is unlike any other wildlife destination — a self-contained ecosystem inside the world's largest inactive volcanic caldera, home to approximately 30,000 animals including a resident population of black rhino. You descend into the crater twice: once at sunrise (06:30) and once in the afternoon (15:30). The morning descent in the first light is extraordinary — the crater floor is often shrouded in mist that burns off as the sun rises, revealing the wildlife below. The afternoon drive gives you different predator activity as the animals become active again. You exit the crater at 18:30 and drive back to your rim lodge for dinner.

A shorter final game drive inside the Ngorongoro Crater from 06:30 to 10:00 — the early morning light on the crater floor is exceptional and predators are still active from the night's hunting. Breakfast at your lodge after the drive. Then you drive back to Arusha, approximately 4 hours. For those with afternoon or evening flights out of Kilimanjaro International Airport, we can arrange a day room at a comfortable Arusha hotel where you can shower, rest, and have lunch before the airport transfer. Alternatively, we can add a brief stop at Lake Manyara (famous for its tree-climbing lions and pink flamingo colonies on the lake shore) en route.
