The Founder
Meet Don Kasim
Second-generation operator. Born in Arusha. Forty-eight years of Tanzania in his blood.
Arusha, Tanzania
Tanzania Is Not Just Where We Work — It Is Where We Are From
Don Kasim grew up in Arusha, in the shadow of Mount Meru, watching his father Bobby prepare safari vehicles before dawn and return with stories of leopard sightings and wildebeest crossings. He did not choose the safari industry — it chose him, the way the land chooses the people who will care for it.
After years of accompanying his father on game drives and learning the wildlife patterns of the northern circuit by osmosis and repetition, Don took over the business with a clear conviction: the way to run a safari company is the way his father had run it — directly, honestly, and with full personal accountability for every guest's experience.
Today, Don manages Magical Tanzania alongside his own family, maintaining the direct-operator model that has defined the company since 1978. He answers WhatsApp messages himself, meets arriving guests at Kilimanjaro International Airport, and personally oversees the itineraries of guests who value a hands-on approach to planning.

"A safari operator is only as good as the trust guests place in them. I have spent my whole life building that trust — one family at a time, one safari at a time."
Background
Four Decades of Tanzania Experience
Born and Raised in Arusha
Don grew up in Arusha, the gateway town to Tanzania's northern safari circuit. His childhood was shaped by the rhythms of the bush — the dry seasons, the migration months, the quiet weeks when the elephants moved through Tarangire.
Second-Generation Safari Operator
Taking over from his father Bobby, who started the company in 1978 with a single Land Rover, Don has been involved in every aspect of the business — from vehicle maintenance to guide training to guest relations — for over two decades.
Deep Northern Circuit Knowledge
The Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire, Lake Manyara — Don has spent more hours in these parks than most guides spend in their entire careers. He knows where the lions hunt at dawn, which crossing points the wildebeest prefer, and how weather patterns affect game movement.
Family-Owned and Family-Run
Magical Tanzania remains entirely family-owned. When you WhatsApp the office, you reach someone who has Tanzania in their blood. No call centres, no overseas operations teams — just the Kassim family and their team of long-serving Tanzanian guides.

The Direct Difference
Why Direct Matters — and Why It Is Rare
Most Tanzania safari companies are resellers. They take your booking, add their margin, and subcontract the actual operation to a third party whose vehicles and guides they do not own or employ. When something goes wrong — a vehicle breaks down, a camp overbooks — you are dealing with a call centre, not the person who can fix it.
Magical Tanzania is different by design. Don owns every vehicle in the fleet. He employs every guide directly. Every logistics decision — from the route you take into the Serengeti to the camp you stay in — runs through Arusha.
This is not the most profitable way to run a safari company. It is the most honest way. It is the way Don was taught, and it is the way he intends to keep running things.
