Two weeks, two once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Climb Kilimanjaro via the Lemosho Route — the quietest, most scenic path to the Roof of Africa — then recover on a private safari through the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Day 4

Shira 2 to Barranco Camp (3,960m) via Lava Tower

Critical acclimatization day. Climb to Lava Tower at 4,630m — your first taste of high altitude — then descend to Barranco Camp. This 'climb high, sleep low' strategy is the key to Lemosho's superior summit success rate. The Barranco Valley rewards you with towering groundsel plants and dramatic wall views.

Stay: Barranco Camp (3,960m)Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 5

Barranco Wall to Karanga Camp (3,995m)

Scramble up the famous Barranco Wall — the most exhilarating section of the climb. Hands-on rock scrambling with your guides right beside you. Cross several alpine valleys to reach Karanga Camp, your final water collection point before the summit push.

Stay: Karanga Camp (3,995m)Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 6

Karanga to Barafu Base Camp (4,673m)

A shorter day to conserve energy for summit night. Trek across the alpine desert to Barafu Base Camp. Rest, eat, and hydrate all afternoon. Your guide briefs you on the summit attempt — gear, pacing, and what to expect in the dark.

Stay: Barafu Camp (4,673m)Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 7

Summit Night — Uhuru Peak (5,895m)

Wake at midnight. Headlamps on. Begin the slow, steady ascent through the scree and glaciers to Stella Point on the crater rim. Watch the sunrise illuminate all of Africa below you. Push on to Uhuru Peak — 5,895m, the Roof of Africa. Celebrate, photograph, then descend to Millennium Camp for the night.

Stay: Millennium Camp (3,820m)Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 8

Day 9

Rest Day in Arusha

A well-earned rest day. Sleep in, stretch sore muscles, and explore Arusha at your own pace. Optional visit to the local market or a coffee farm tour. Tomorrow your safari begins — a completely different adventure awaits.

Stay: Arusha Coffee Lodge or similarMeals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 10

Arusha to Ngorongoro Crater

Stay: Ngorongoro Serena Lodge (crater rim)Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Days 11–12

Serengeti National Park

Two full days in the Serengeti — the ultimate reward after your summit. Track lion prides across the endless plains, watch cheetahs hunt at dawn, and find leopards draped in acacia branches. What Guests Say About This Trip

Standing on Uhuru Peak at sunrise was the hardest and best thing I've ever done. Three days later, watching a leopard hunt from our Land Cruiser felt surreal — like two different lifetimes in one trip.

The Lemosho Route was stunning — so quiet compared to Machame. Our mountain guide was incredible, checking our oxygen levels twice daily. Then the Serengeti safari felt like a victory lap. Perfect combination.

Common Questions

Kilimanjaro Lemosho + Safari FAQ

Why the Lemosho Route?
Lemosho has the highest summit success rate of any route (90%+) thanks to its 8-day profile with excellent acclimatization. It starts on Kilimanjaro's quiet western side — less crowded than Machame or Marangu — and traverses the full mountain, giving you every ecological zone from rainforest to glacier.
How fit do I need to be?
You don't need to be an athlete, but you should be comfortable walking 5-7 hours a day for multiple days. Regular cardio training (hiking, cycling, running) for 2-3 months before your trip makes a big difference. The safari portion requires no fitness — just enthusiasm.
Can I do the safari first and climb second?
Yes, we can reverse the order. Some guests prefer to safari first as a warm-up. Others prefer to climb first and celebrate afterward on the Serengeti. We'll design it around your preference.
What gear do I need for Kilimanjaro?
We send a full gear list when you book. Essentials: layered clothing, waterproof shell, warm sleeping bag (-10C rated), headlamp, and broken-in hiking boots. We rent sleeping bags, trekking poles, and down jackets in Arusha if you prefer to travel light.
Is altitude sickness a serious risk?
Altitude affects everyone differently, but the 8-day Lemosho profile minimizes the risk with gradual ascent and 'climb high, sleep low' strategies. Our guides are trained in altitude assessment and carry emergency oxygen and a portable altitude chamber. We take zero chances.
Can I extend to Zanzibar after the safari?
Absolutely — and after 14 days of climbing and safari, you've earned it. We'll add 3-5 days on Zanzibar's white sand beaches. The flight from the Serengeti to Zanzibar takes about 2 hours.
