No brokers. No subcontractors. Every guide is our employee.

Since 1978

From One Land Rover to Tanzania’s Most Trusted Safari Company

In 1978, Bobby Kassim bought a Land Rover and started driving visitors into the Serengeti. There was no website, no office, no brochure — just a man who loved his country and wanted to share it with the world.

Nearly five decades later, the family business Bobby started has grown into one of Tanzania’s most respected safari companies. Three generations of the Kassim family now live and work in Arusha, at the foot of Mount Meru, within sight of Kilimanjaro.

We still operate the same way Bobby did: directly. No overseas agents. No middlemen. No subcontracted vehicles or freelance guides. When you book with Magical Tanzania, every dollar goes to your experience — not to an office in London, New York, or Cape Town. Our guide to booking a local safari operator explains exactly what that difference means for your trip.

Our guides aren’t seasonal hires. They’re career professionals who’ve spent 10, 15, even 25 years guiding with our family. They know where the leopard sleeps in the fig tree, where the cheetah hunts at dawn, which crossing point the wildebeest will choose this week. That kind of knowledge doesn’t come from a training course — it comes from a lifetime on the land.

What We Stand For

Our Way of Doing Safaris

01

Direct Operation

We own every vehicle, employ every guide, and manage every detail from our Arusha base. No brokers, no middlemen, no offshore overhead.

02

Transparent Pricing

We show our prices upfront. What you see is what you pay. No hidden fees, no surprise surcharges, no 'market rate' adjustments.

03

Private By Default

Every safari is private. Your own vehicle, your own guide, your own schedule. No group departures, no fixed itineraries, no compromises.

04

Local to the Bone

We don't just work in Tanzania — we're Tanzanian. Born in Arusha, educated in Arusha, raising our children in Arusha. This is home.

What We Stand For

Why the right operator matters more than the right certification

Certifications can be earned. Trust must be built.

Any operator can pay for a sustainability audit or a tourism board endorsement. What cannot be purchased is 48 years of consistent guest satisfaction, guide continuity, and the kind of local knowledge that only comes from a lifetime on the land. We measure ourselves by the same standard we have always used: would the Kassim family take this safari themselves?

We recommend any camp that is right for you — including camps we do not own.

Unlike operators who own a fixed portfolio of camps and are therefore incentivised to recommend only what they own, we work with camps across Tanzania. If a camp is not right for your trip, we will tell you and suggest somewhere better. Our incentive is your satisfaction — not the occupancy rate of our own properties.

The question to ask any safari operator is not which awards they have won, but whether they have ever turned a guest away because the fit was not right. We have. We do it every year. It is not good for business — it is good for the safaris we do run.

About Magical Tanzania

Questions travellers ask about our safari company

Clear answers about who we are, how we operate, and why direct local planning matters.

Who is behind Magical Tanzania?

Magical Tanzania is run by the Kassim family in Arusha, the same family behind Bobby Tours Tanzania. The family has guided private safaris since 1978 and still operates directly from Tanzania.

Is Magical Tanzania a local safari operator or an overseas agency?

We are a local Tanzanian operator. Your planning conversation, vehicle operations, guide team, and guest support are handled by the Arusha team rather than by an overseas reseller.

Why does local ownership matter for a Tanzania safari?

Local ownership means clearer accountability, better in-country support, and advice based on current conditions in the parks. It also keeps more of your trip value in Tanzania.

Can Magical Tanzania design premium private safaris?

Yes. We design tailor-made private safaris across northern Tanzania, with transparent pricing, private 4x4 vehicles, and camp recommendations based on your dates, budget, and travel style.
