More Time in the Wild, Less Time on Roads
The defining feature of a fly-in safari is efficiency without sacrifice. You board a light aircraft in Arusha and land in the heart of Tarangire 20 minutes later. Two days later you are over the Serengeti, watching thousands of wildebeest from the window. Three hours after that you are standing on a white sand beach in Zanzibar. The distance Tanzania covers — from highland forests to endless savannah to turquoise ocean — is best seen from the air.
The Fly-In Difference
Why Choose a Fly-In Safari
Aerial Perspective
Seeing the Serengeti from the air changes your understanding of it. The scale — millions of hectares of unfenced wilderness — is impossible to comprehend from the ground. Migration herds stretching to the horizon, the dark line of the Mara River snaking through the plains, the distinct green of Ndutu against the gold grass — these are images you cannot make from a vehicle.
Time reclaimed
The drive from Arusha to the Serengeti takes 7-8 hours on roads that are rough, dusty, and tiring. The flight takes 1.5 hours. That six-hour difference is an extra half-day in the Serengeti — two additional game drives, a bush breakfast, or simply the rest that makes the rest of your trip better. Fly-in safaris are the choice of travellers who respect their own time.
Exclusive Access
Some of Tanzania’s finest camps — fly-in only properties in private conservancies and remote corners of the Serengeti — cannot be reached by road. Fly-in access gives you these options: intimate camps with six tents, private dinners in the bush, and game drives with no other vehicles in sight. Road access is limited; aerial access is unlimited.
Your Journey
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arusha to Tarangire — By Air
Morning charter flight from Arusha airstrip to Tarangire. The 20-minute flight passes over the Maasai Steppe and Lake Manyara's forest canopy before landing at a private Tarangire airstrip. Your guide meets you on the ground and transfers you to camp. Afternoon game drive in Tarangire — the park is known for its enormous elephant herds and ancient baobab trees. Sundowners overlooking the Tarangire River.
Tarangire to Serengeti — The Great Flight
Morning game drive in Tarangire, then a short flight from Tarangire airstrip to the central Serengeti. The 45-minute flight offers extraordinary aerial views of Lake Natron's pink flamingos and the Ngorongoro Highlands. Land on a grass airstrip in the heart of the Serengeti. Afternoon and evening game drive on arrival — the central Serengeti has exceptional year-round wildlife.
Serengeti — Three Days Immersion
Three full days in the Serengeti with morning and afternoon game drives. During migration season (June-October), your guide positions you for river crossings on the Mara River — one of the most dramatic wildlife spectacles on Earth. In the green season (November-May), predator action is exceptional: lions, leopards, and cheetahs are easily found. Your camp is perfectly positioned for whatever the season offers.
Serengeti to Zanzibar — Bush to Beach
Final morning game drive in the Serengeti — sunrise is the best time to see predators. After breakfast, transfer to the Serengeti airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar. The 2-hour flight takes you from the wild savannah to the turquoise Indian Ocean. Land at Zanzibar's Stone Town airport and transfer to your beach resort on the north coast.
Zanzibar — Beach Day & Departure
Full day at leisure on Zanzibar's white sand beaches. Swim, snorkel, explore Stone Town, or take a dhow sailing trip. Your guide can arrange activities on request. Late afternoon transfer to Zanzibar Airport for your international departure flight.
