Five Things Most Travellers Get Wrong When Booking Serengeti Lodges
Book peak season 8–12 months ahead
July–October and January–February (calving) fill 12–18 months ahead for the best camps. If your heart is set on a specific property during high season, lock it in early.
Ask your operator to explain the concession vs. park distinction
Many travellers do not understand the implications until they arrive. Private concession stays offer night drives, off-road driving, and walking safaris — experiences that are impossible inside the national park.
Ask about the camp's migration proximity
Some 'Serengeti' camps are 60km from the migration corridor. During July–November, staying in the northern corridor (Lamai, Mara Triangle) versus central Serengeti is the difference between watching crossings from camp and driving two hours each way.
Check park fee structure before comparing prices
Some lodges quote all-inclusive rates that include park fees; others quote accommodation only. Always compare like-for-like. Park fees for Serengeti are currently $60–$71 per person per day (2026 rates), which adds significantly to the total cost.
Consider combining areas
