Rwanda's gift is the mountain gorilla. There are approximately 1,000 mountain gorillas left on Earth, roughly half of which live in the Virunga volcanic mountain range shared by Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park offers the most accessible and professionally managed gorilla trekking experience in the world. Twelve habituated gorilla families receive visitors daily. The infrastructure — guides, porters, permits — is the most refined of any great ape tourism programme.
The honest answer to "which should I choose?" is: if this is your first time in East Africa, do Tanzania properly first.
