After — almost always. Most safari itineraries end in the northern circuit (Arusha or the Serengeti), and Zanzibar is a 45-minute flight south from there. Doing safari first means you arrive at the beach tired, sun-touched, and ready to do nothing — which is exactly what Zanzibar is for. Doing Zanzibar first means dragging luggage through Stone Town before you've earned the right to relax. The one exception is honeymooners who want a slow start; for them we occasionally flip the order.

Most travellers climb first, then safari — partly because summit days are exhausting, and partly because the post-climb contrast (mountain → open plains) is one of the great travel sequences. A typical combined itinerary is 7 days on Kilimanjaro (Lemosho or Machame route) followed by 4–6 days on safari. The handoff is simple because the same operator handles both: same vehicle, same team, no third-party booking. We run about a dozen of these combined trips a month.

Yes, if you can spare the time and budget. An hour with a habituated gorilla family in Volcanoes National Park is one of the deepest wildlife encounters on Earth — there is nothing else like it. The logistics: a flight from Kilimanjaro or Nairobi to Kigali (about 1.5 hours), then a 2.5-hour road transfer to Musanze. Plan 3 nights in Rwanda (2 nights of trekking, 1 buffer for weather or visa). Rwanda requires a separate visa and East African gorilla permits must be secured months in advance — we handle all of it.

Two nights is the practical minimum, three is comfortable. The falls themselves need half a day on foot (Zambian side is the better viewing experience). Most travellers add a sunset cruise on the Zambezi, a morning white-water rafting trip, or a helicopter flip over the falls. Getting there means a regional flight from Arusha or Nairobi to Livingstone (Zambia) or Victoria Falls town (Zimbabwe) — about 4–5 hours with connections. Visa-on-arrival is available at both airports for most passports.

Yes, with one regional flight and a Kenya visa. Most cross-border Mara extensions start from the Serengeti's northern Lobo or Mara River areas — your guide can drop you at the Kenya border (Isebania/Sand River), where a Kenyan vehicle meets you on the other side. The reverse direction also works. The cross-border drive is 2–3 hours with immigration formalities; many travellers prefer the 1-hour bush flight from the Serengeti to a Mara airstrip instead. Visa is an East Africa Tourist Visa ($100, covers Kenya + Rwanda + Uganda).
